VIDEO: An inside look at the calorimetry rooms at the TRI

Earlier this month, FOX 35 Orlando reporter Tom Johnson visited the Florida Hospital – Sanford-Burnham Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI) to check out the calorimetry laboratory. The laboratory consists of two “dorm” rooms and two small calorimeter rooms that analyze the air in the room to measure energy expenditure and the type of food a person is burning without the person having the discomfort of being hooked up to machinery. These rooms are the first ever designed for precisely measuring energy expenditure at rest or during exercise. Johnson spent a few hours in a calorimetry room to learn more about his metabolism and how his body burns calories.
